Today black citizens only account for 13.2% of Americans, they are proportionally being killed by cops at a higher rate. California has built 22 prions & 1 university in the past 20 years. It’s true that the vast majority of blacks who are murdered are killed by other blacks, 2,245 out of 2,491 works out to 90% a year of black on black murders. When theres no jobs or resources to better educate ones self by picking up a trade at a vocational center doesn't exist any more because of budget cuts in a city where your from, this leads to crime and the murder rate goes up.

Writer/DirectorKeith Lea is an award winning Guerrilla filmmaker who touches on the issues of today and yesterday in the urban community.
Lea is a Native of Stockton C.A. with ties to the Bay Area and Texas. two of his films, "Greedy" & "Fumes of Fury" have tales on the broken urban community experience, controversial issues, gun violence, racism, police brutality, broken school systems & consequences.
Lea Directed, produced & wrote his first two feature films. In addition to his feature film credits, Lea has directed a number of music videos, commercial, & interviews. Lea in rolled S.F. City college where he made his first student film "Stop" a short feature on stop the violence. He majored in film and took all the film courses they had to offer.
He made his directorial debut with "Greedy" (2006) & has since directed "Fumes of Fury" (2014). He went on to graduate from San Joaquin Delta College where he also majored in communications, Radio & Television. Lea's movies have examined gun violence, poverty, & political issues. He learned most of those lessons growing up on the streets of Stockton California, The Bay Area and Texas.
Keith Lea possesses the street smarts that gives him the credentials to make a street film, but he's also comfortable in his role as filmmaker and advocate for his art. Lea had seen a lot of real life tales from the hood, but it was not until his brother was killed by gun violence that it really hit home. He heard of Spike Lee and how he raised money to make his movies, but it was Matty Rich's movie "Straight Outta Brooklyn" (1991) that made him think directing films, was possible. Lea said to himself, "He can tell his stories to about the urban community ,'" Lea was living in San Francisco at the time so he went to the library and stole books about writing screenplays & filmmaking and would return them after reading them to perfect his skills of filmmaking before he went to college.

New CALI VLOG #5 ABOUT ME - Guerrilla Filmmaker Keith Lea
Today I want you tell you a little bit about myself
About Myself…
Hi, for those of those who don't know me, my name is keith Lea. I am a independent filmmaker from Stockton C.A. with over 15 years of experience working in the film business. I majored in Film & Communications . I have Written & Directed 2 independent movies, "Greedy & "Fumes of Fury". My next new movie, "California Livin" will be my third indie feature. Below is a picture of me during one of the the casting calls for the new 2016 movie "California Livin." I am the one sitting down with the water bottle in front of me writing on the paper.
I grew up in Stockton C.A. and lived in the bay Area but was able to travel the world some due to my father joining the Army when I was younger. My 22 year old only older brother was murdered, shot & killed due to gun violence in the streets of America. This impacted my family greatly. The loss of my Mother's and Father's Oldest Son, my Father's Jr.. This left me without a brother and no sisters since my parents never had any other kids.
A couple of years passed after my brother's death and my parents were living in San Francisco C.A . at the time and I decided I would move with them from Stockton C.A. to get a fresh start in life. I was at a point in my life where my brothers death had affected me and I did't know which direction to go. This is when my mother and I was watching t.v. and a filmmaker by the name of Matty Rich from the Inner City of New York was on the News program and he had raised a Hundred thousand dollars to make his own movie through the radio and investors. That's when the light bulb went off in my head and the movie bug hit me and I wanted to tell my stories through movies & touch peoples lives in a positive way. That's when I fell in love with filmmaking.
After watching Matty Rich on t.v. I told my mother that I wanted to make movies. She said go ahead I believe you can. With her belief and my own I went to the library and I had no I.d. card so i could not check out book. I would steal filmmaking books and read them and return them back after I read them until I got my library card and started checking them out. I wrote my first script and was not sure if i had the format down so I entered San Francisco City College and I majored in film. I took every film class they had even script writing to make sure I had it down packed.
My family moved back to Stockton C.A. Where I met a man named Cedric Singleton who owned a Rap company named Black Market records out of Sacramento C.A.. We agreed to start a film company Black Market Films and make a movie if I could come up with the script for one of his artists. I completed the script and we made the movie. "Greedy." I Wrote, Produced & Directed.

I entered the Movie "Greedy" in some film festivals and was accepted . I got to travele to a few film festivals because of the movie "Greedy". The Hollywood Black Film Festival, The San Francisco Black film Festival, Cannes France "Augora", The Sacramento Film Festival, and a few others. Needless to say I never got paid from the company after over ten years since I made the movie "Greedy" with them.
Time went by and I gathered myself together and got a small crew and we made our own Hip Hop Graffiti Movie/Docudrama. "Fumes of Fury", written/Directed by myself & made in Stockton C.A. with my family and friends.

In 2014/2015 after completion the Movie "Fumes of Fury" I was contacted by my old company Black Market Records & Films about did I have a soundtrack and we begun to talk and agreed to make the money right about the back pay for "Greedy"and put out the new movie I wrote & was Directing "California Livin". In 2015/2016 after five month's of some casting and getting the locations together they gave me a contract and I took it to the lawyers. The Lawyers looked the contracts over and told me they are not going to charge me any consolation fee because they wouldn't sign the contracts themselves. The contracts never got worked out in the 6 month's in preproduction, scheduling, some casting & auditions. They also wanted to film some parts of the movie in Sacramento and say it was stockton and countless other oppositions. I own the copy wrights to "California Livin" so I have the right & wrights to make this movie & bring this story to life for the people.

First what is a Guerrilla filmmaker?
A Guerrilla filmmaking refers to a form of independent filmmaking characterized by low budgets, skeleton crews, and simple props using whatever is available. Often scenes are shot quickly in real locations without any warning, and without obtaining filming permits.
Guerrilla filmmaking is usually done by independent filmmakers because they don't have the budget to get permits, rent out locations, or build expensive sets. Larger and more "mainstream" film studios tend to avoid guerrilla filmmaking tactics because of the risk of being sued, fined or having their reputation damaged due to negative PR exposure.
According to Yukon Film Commission Manager Mark Hill, "Guerrilla filmmaking is driven by passion with whatever means at hand"

Guerrilla films
Janet Maslin of The New York Times characterized Ed Wood as a guerrilla filmmaker. As depicted in the biopic Ed Wood, Wood stole a fake octopus for one of the scenes in his low budget films.[2]
Film critic Roger Ebert described Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, directed by Melvin Van Peebles, as "a textbook on guerrilla filmmaking" in his review of Baadasssss!, a biopic about the making of Sweet Sweetback.[3] Ben Sisario of The New York Times called Van Peebles "a hero of guerrilla filmmaking" who has suffered for his uncompromising vision.[4]
Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It was a guerrilla film on a budget of $175,000 which made $7,137,502 at the box office.[5] It was Spike Lee's first feature-length film and inspired him to write the book Spike Lee's Gotta Have It: Inside Guerrilla Filmmaking.[6]
New Queer Cinema director Gregg Araki shot his first two films, Three Bewildered People in the Night (1987) and The Long Weekend (O' Despair) (1989) using a spring-wound Bolex camera and scrap film stock, on a budget of $5,000 each.[7]
Robert Rodriguez shot the action film El Mariachi in Spanish. El Mariachi, which was shot for around $7,000 with money partially raised by volunteering in medical research studies, won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 1992. The film, originally intended for the Spanish-language low-budget home-video market, was distributed by Columbia Pictures in the United States. Rodriguez described his experiences making the film in his bookRebel Without a Crew. The book and film would inspire other filmmakers to pick up cameras and make no-budget movies.[8]
Pi, directed by Darren Aronofsky,[9] was made on a budget of $68,000. It proved to be a financial success at the box office ($4.6 million gross worldwide).[10] Aronofsky raised money for the project by selling $100 shares in the film to family and friends, and was able to pay them all back with a $50 profit per-share when the film was sold to Artisan.[citation needed]
Troma Entertainment is a film production and distribution company founded by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz in 1974. The company produces low-budget independent films, many of which have developed cult followings. Kaufman has been outspoken about their use of guerrilla marketing and tolerance of piracy, and he has written the books All I Need to Know about Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger and Make Your Own Damn Movie!, which outline his philosophy of quick and inexpensive independent film.[11]
Paranormal Activity, directed by first time director Oren Peli, was shot for approximately $10,000. Michael Cieply of The New York Times described the production and release as "guerrilla style". After being well received at film festivals, Paramount put the film on a tour where fans could request a screening.[12]
Escape From Tomorrow, made for $650,000, was "shot in a guerrilla-style manner at Walt Disney World and Disneyland without the permission of the parks," according to Jason Guerrasio of Indiewire. The film was originally expected to not be released due to fears of a lawsuit from Disney, but it was released on video on demand in October 2013.[13]
"Clark: A Gonzomentary' was a 2012 gonzo journalism-styled mockumentary about an amateur filmmaker documenting a Philadelphian eccentric artist and his creative process. The guerrilla-style techniques implemented were used as part of the story itself, to represent the amateur production within the story. It was shot with a budget of less than $3,000 with a Canon XL2 and a Panasonic AG-DVX100. The director opted out of using a steadicampurposefully to achieve more shakiness. It was awarded Outstanding Lead Actor in a comedy or mockumentary by The 2013 LA Web Series Festival and deemed "a gonzomentary truly realized" by Mark Bell of Film Threat.[14]
"Midnight Rider", a biopic of Gregg Allman, attempted to use guerilla filmmaking methods to illegally film a sequence on a railroad bridge in active use. A train coming shattered a metal bed placed on the tracks, killing camera operator Sarah Jones. Director Randall Miller was sentenced to two years imprisonment for involuntary manslaughter while producer Jay Sedrish received a suspended sentence of ten years' probation. Both were prohibited from working in any directorial or safety-related role for a decade.
Technology
The advent of digital cameras and home computer editing systems such as Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer and Premiere are a contributing factor to the increase in guerrilla filmmaking. Digital editing is a cheap and easy form of editing that allows the filmmaker to edit anywhere and at a low budget.
Many guerrilla filmmakers are now using professional quality digital cameras because of their cheap cost, and the ability to set up shots quickly.
Many films have used digital cameras in the place of film cameras such as: 28 Days Later, Miami Vice and Sin City. One recent film shot on consumer camcorders that has received major attention and awards is My Date with Drew, directed by Brian Herzlinger. The first crowdfunded Indian Kannada movie "Lucia" also was effectively shot using Canon 5D.
